You’re here! Thanks for coming. I’ll do my best not to bore you.

My name is Leon Durupt and I’ve been working and performing in China for the last decade (plus). I like to think that I’ve grown up here and that despite all the mistakes made, I’ve learned a ton about business, Chinese and life in general. I hope that what I present here can be a consistent source of food for thought and valuable information. I doubt that it will be ground-breaking but as I improve as a writer I think it will contribute to that general pool of human intercourse that is getting larger and larger, but in a lot of ways leaves us (me) hoping for something more.

As I read through the blogs and online news services and observe the escalation of online political rhetoric, I appreciate more and more those who take a measured approach to everything they get involved with. Whether I’m reading the New York Times page or listening to an engaging conversation in one of the many podcasts I listen to, those that contribute the most to my daily enrichment and enlightenment are the ones who, although they’re not afraid to use entertaining or even dramatic language, are able to control their tone like a musician and keep things in a timbre that doesn’t overwhelm their message.

I personally have a lot of trouble writing in that kind of entertaining but restrained manner. I’ve always fancied myself a writer and I’m involved in several projects that require frequent use of my writing abilities, such as website content for The Terrace (Great Food, Live Music is the tag line), writing lyrics for my own songs, training materials and memos to management and staff and now this website of my own. I hope I can provide some insight into some of my interests, especially those that may not have anything to do with The Terrace, a place with which I’ve become readily identified.

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy my work at The Terrace tremendously, but it’s nice to break out into other areas that have captured my interest over the years but have taken a back seat to a venture that requires as much attention as The Terrace. At any rate, my objective on this page is far different from that.

I hope to encourage, entertain, rant and rave, enlighten and engage all those who visit and along the way I hope to continue my own learning process. For that reason, the scope of this website is a lot more general and is specific in only one regard, and that is that anything I find interesting will find it’s way onto these pages. I sincerely hope that you, the reader, will come to visit often and comment often.

And enjoy.
